For my final ICM project I would like to combine it with my physical computing project or make a game. I will need to test this week to see how much coding will be necessary for my p comp assignment. It will require altering a webcam and tones based on sensor readings, so it depends how much variation there will be with the sensor and how feasible the concept is to begin with.
If I make a game, however, I would like to make something short and meaningful like Loved. One theme I’d like to explore is depression as in the case of Elude, though more along the lines of Dys4ia in that I’d rather the game be more biographical than educational. My main inspiration in terms of gameplay is A Mother in Festerwood as I really like the idea of protecting a house in the wilderness that is being overrun with monsters. Perhaps it can simulate a depressive episode and the character can slowly battle these creatures from the woods until he inevitably becomes overrun. Once this happens and he seems to be dying people can come out of the house and help him repel the creatures until they begin to disappear. After a bit the main character and his friends are left protecting this house with a few creatures remaining at bay and the game ends.
I’m a bit worried about creating the artwork for the game, but the coding part seems small enough in scope and the game would be meaningful to me. I think the art elements are what will make the game interesting and maybe include a short artist statement as in the case of A Mother in Festerwood. Over the next week this idea should become clearer and I’m curious as to what everyone else will say.
